We have been doing something different at dcf lately, namely, having our teaching of instruction followed by an open time of singing, praying, reading of Scripture, and teaching. Anyone can participate as they are led by Holy Spirit to give the Lord is due worship in any of these forms.
Tonight we sang this song. While we were singing it I felt a tangible burden lifted from my heart. I can honestly say it was a renewed joy in the rock solid assurance that Jesus’ work on my behalf is all of my righteousness. All of the ideas for evangelism and the plans for the house mean nothing if they are not rooted in a deep love for Jesus. In the are areas of my life where Jesus is not the foundation, I need to ask God to graciously grant me repentance in order to, as shai linne raps, “kill sin and dis-attach [me] from [my] idols.” After the service tonight, God has renewed my desire to study the Word, get into sound doctrine, and pray more earnestly. Edison Glass would say that time is fiction. I tend to believe them. We don’t know when the Lord will return – and must live accordingly.
We sang this song (among many) tonight, but it expresses my current feelings about God’s continuous saving grace worked in my life.
The Lord is gracious and compassionate
Slow to anger and rich in love
The Lord is gracious and compassionate
Slow to anger and rich in love
And the Lord is Good to all
He has compassion for all he has made
As far as the east is from the west, that’s how far he has removed our transgressions from us
As far as the east is from the west, that’s how far he has removed our transgressions from us
Praise the Lord oh my soul, praise the Lord
Praise the Lord oh my soul, praise the Lord
